What EC30 means.

EC30 means the controller energized the ice-maker water valve and the valve did not de-energize within the expected window (typically 15 seconds on most Sub-Zero models). This is a flood-prevention code: if the valve is stuck open, water will keep pouring into the ice mold or the dispenser line until it overflows onto the floor. Once EC30 logs, the controller usually cuts ice production until the fault clears, which is why the ice bin will be empty for days alongside this code.

Most common causes.

  • Water inlet valve solenoid stuck open (failed open).

  • Ice maker mold thermostat jammed (calling for water that the valve cannot deliver).

  • Wire harness short between board and valve.

  • Control board valve-driver transistor failed.

Try this first — safe DIY troubleshooting.

  1. Shut off the water supply to the fridge at the saddle valve or shut-off behind the wall.

  2. Pull the ice bin and look for an overflow trail of ice down the back of the freezer.

  3. Leave water off until a tech can verify the inlet valve is closing.

  4. Do not keep running the unit with the water valve suspected open — kitchen flood damage is the real risk here.

  • Highly recommended. Been in business with Ivan 3 different times with different appliances and all were satisfactory with problem fixed. He even figured out an indirect minor issue and fixed it for us with no charge without us asking for it. Ivan will be the first one I call in any cases of an appliance that needs repair.
