What EC05 means.

EC05 means the controller is seeing impossible numbers from the refrigerator-compartment thermistor — typically open-circuit (no signal) or shorted (zero ohms). When the board cannot trust the temperature reading it logs EC05 and falls back to a "safe-mode" duty cycle, which usually runs the compressor too long and over-cools or under-cools the cabinet. On Classic 600/700-series units the thermistor is clipped to the inside of the fresh-food liner near the top; on integrated columns it sits on the back wall behind the upper trim.

Most common causes.

  • Thermistor sensor failed open (most common after 7–10 years).

  • Sensor connector at the back of the cabinet is corroded or loose.

  • Wire harness pinched during a previous service or shelf install.

  • Main control board input has failed (rare).

Try this first — safe DIY troubleshooting.

  1. Pop the upper trim or interior cap and look at the thermistor connector — if a drink spilled, you will see green corrosion.

  2. Unplug the unit for 5 minutes and re-seat the connector if you can reach it without forcing trim.

  3. Restore power. If EC05 returns within an hour, the thermistor itself is bad and needs replacement.

  4. Do not run the unit long-term with EC05 active — food temperature is no longer being managed accurately.

  • Highly recommended. Been in business with Ivan 3 different times with different appliances and all were satisfactory with problem fixed. He even figured out an indirect minor issue and fixed it for us with no charge without us asking for it. Ivan will be the first one I call in any cases of an appliance that needs repair.
