Traulsen is a commercial-only brand, now part of ITW, with a chassis built around solid stainless construction and a service life measured in decades rather than years. We see Traulsen RHT and RIH cabinets that have been running in Orange County hotel kitchens and high-end restaurants since the late 1990s, still pulling setpoint, but with components that are aging faster than the cabinet itself. The repair work on a 20-year-old Traulsen is rarely the chassis. It is the controls, the fans, the gaskets, and the defrost system that need attention.

Common Traulsen issues we see

• Condenser-coil heat-rejection problems. Commercial dust and lint cake the coil, heat-shed drops, the compressor runs longer cycles, and the cabinet drifts warm during the busiest service hours.
• Evaporator-coil failures on long-life cabinets. After 15 to 20 years of duty, the coil fins corrode, refrigerant migrates, and the unit cannot hold setpoint even with a clean condenser.
• Defrost-timer drift on older RHT platforms. The timer mechanism slips, defrost triggers at the wrong interval, and frost builds on the evaporator until the airflow chokes.
• Door-switch and interior-light failures. The switch fatigues from constant cycling, the light stays on, and the cabinet sees a small but constant heat load it was not designed for.
• Solenoid-valve faults on dual-temperature cabinets. The freezer side and refrigerator side share a refrigeration circuit, the solenoid sticks, and one compartment cannot hold its setpoint.
• Electronic-control retrofits on older mechanical units. When a mechanical thermostat fails on a 1990s RHT, the OEM-replacement is now a digital control, and the install requires a wiring change.

Service expectations for commercial accounts

Hotel kitchens and fine-dining restaurants get same- or next-day priority during our 8am to 7pm window, seven days a week. We provide a written quote before parts are ordered, because Traulsen replacement parts are often spec-line items that take a day or two to source. Parts and labor carry a 3-month warranty, with 6 to 12 months on compressor and sealed-system work. A Traulsen chassis often outlasts the components inside it, so we will tell you when a repair makes sense and when a particular part is a known weak link. Emergency calls outside our 8am-7pm window are by arrangement.
