What EC15 means.

EC15 is the code Sub-Zero uses when the controller infers that refrigerant has leaked out of the sealed system — usually because the compressor is running continuously without the suction line getting cold or the evaporator reaching its target. This is a serious code: the sealed system contains R-134a or R-600a refrigerant under pressure and is brazed shut at the factory. It cannot be opened, recharged, or repaired without EPA Section 608 certified equipment and a full leak-down test.

Most common causes.

  • Pinhole leak at an evaporator joint (corrosion from kitchen humidity).

  • Compressor process tube fatigue crack.

  • Condenser coil punctured during a previous service.

  • Filter-drier saturated (often paired with a leak elsewhere).

Do not attempt this one yourself.

Error code EC15 on a Sub-Zero refrigerator indicates a sealed-system or high-voltage fault. The work involves refrigerant under pressure or a brazed-shut compressor circuit and requires EPA Section 608 certified equipment plus specialized vacuum and recovery tools. Attempting it yourself can release refrigerant (an EPA violation), damage the compressor permanently, or cause electrical injury.

Ivan is EPA 608 certified and stocks OEM parts on the truck for Sub-Zero sealed-system repairs. Diagnostic is $65, waived with the repair.

  • Highly recommended. Been in business with Ivan 3 different times with different appliances and all were satisfactory with problem fixed. He even figured out an indirect minor issue and fixed it for us with no charge without us asking for it. Ivan will be the first one I call in any cases of an appliance that needs repair.
