What DF means.

DF (uppercase) is the confirmed-fault version of dE. The board has run multiple failed defrost cycles in a row and is now logging an active fault. Until DF is fixed, frost will build on the evaporator coil at a rate of millimeters per day; within 1–3 weeks airflow drops to nothing and the fresh-food side stops cooling entirely. DF is one of the GE codes that converts "we have a few weeks" into "food is at risk this week" quickly.

  • Defrost thermostat (bimetal) failed open.

  • Wire to heater broken.

  • Main board defrost relay failed.
