Defrost cycle warning — the defrost may not have completed normally.
What dE means.
dE (lowercase d, uppercase E) is the early warning that the defrost cycle did not run to completion. The board started the cycle, but either the heater shut off too early, the cycle timed out, or the coil temperature did not climb high enough. Unlike DF (uppercase) which is a confirmed defrost failure, dE is more of a "watch this" warning — sometimes the next cycle runs fine and dE clears. If it keeps returning, the defrost heater or thermostat is on its way out.
