ERROR CODE · VIKING REFRIGERATOR · ORANGE COUNTY
Viking Refrigerator Error Code oPn
Thermistor open-circuit — temperature sensor has failed or its wire has broken.
What oPn means.
oPn (sometimes shown as OPN) means the temperature thermistor has gone open-circuit — the controller is reading infinite resistance instead of a real number. This usually means the thermistor itself has failed internally, or the wire has been broken at a connector. Without a working sensor the controller cannot manage cabinet temperature accurately, so the unit will either run constantly or shut off entirely depending on the firmware. oPn typically affects one zone (fridge or freezer), not both at the same time.
Most common causes.
-
Thermistor sensor failed (most common after 8+ years).
-
Connector at the back of the cabinet pulled loose.
-
Wire harness pinched during a previous service.
-
Control board input failed (rare).
Try this first — safe DIY troubleshooting.
-
Unplug the unit for 5 minutes to reset the controller.
-
Restore power; if oPn returns within 30 minutes, the sensor itself is bad.
-
Do not run the unit long-term with oPn active — temperature is no longer being managed.
-
Schedule a diagnostic — sensor replacement is straightforward but requires disassembly of the interior trim.

I couldn't recommend this company more highly. I have used them several times and found Ivan to be knowledgeable, responsive, honest and courteous. He has saved me from buying a new refrigerator twice and unlike so many vendors, he is always able to diagnose the problem quickly and always knows how to fix it. We have used this company several times now. I wanted to leave a review because Ivan really went above and beyond for this last repair the day before a big holiday weekend. He saved us! 100% recommend him. Besides being so knowledgeable which helps with diagnosis to repairs he is courteous and timely and we have found his prices to be very fair. It's hard to find a trustworthy reliable repair person. We have Ivan on text now!

Highly recommended. Been in business with Ivan 3 different times with different appliances and all were satisfactory with problem fixed. He even figured out an indirect minor issue and fixed it for us with no charge without us asking for it. Ivan will be the first one I call in any cases of an appliance that needs repair.
