What d means.

The "d" code (sometimes shown as a lowercase d) means the air-damper assembly is stuck. The damper is a small motorized door between the freezer and fresh-food compartments that opens to let cold air through. When it sticks open the fresh-food side over-cools and freezes lettuce; when it sticks closed the fresh-food side warms while the freezer stays fine. The motor itself is small and cheap; the housing is sometimes blocked by an ice chunk from a defrost-drain backup.
