What E15 means.

E15 is the Thermador equivalent of a high-temperature alarm. The fridge cabinet has been above its target temperature long enough for the controller to flag a food-safety concern. E15 is a symptom code — it tells you the cabinet is warm but not why. The cause is almost always door-left-open, recent power outage, or a failing component upstream (evaporator fan, defrost, condenser, compressor). On Thermador columns E15 will sometimes be paired with E05 or E06 if the underlying cause is a sensor fault.

  • Door left ajar.

  • Recent extended power outage.

  • Evaporator fan stopped.

  • Defrost system fault (often with E05/E06).

  • Condenser coils dirty.

Try this first — safe DIY troubleshooting.

  1. Confirm the door is fully closed and the gasket is sealing.

  2. Vacuum the condenser coils at the toe-kick.

  3. Watch for 4 hours — if temperature does not fall below 40°F, schedule service.

  4. Move dairy and meat to a cooler if cabinet stays above 45°F at the 4-hour mark.
