What E05 means.

E05 means the refrigerator-side evaporator-coil sensor is unreachable. This sensor controls when defrost ends — without it the board runs defrost on a backup timer, which is usually too short for warm-humid kitchens. Frost slowly builds on the coil over weeks until airflow stops and the fresh-food side warms. E05 often shows up after a defrost-drain leak corrodes the connector behind the evaporator panel.

  • Sensor crushed by ice during a previous frost-up event.

  • Wire harness chafed against sheet metal.

  1. Watch for frost building on items along the rear wall — that is a sign the cycle is not running.

  2. Do not attempt to remove the rear evaporator panel — it is foamed in on most Thermador columns.

  3. Schedule diagnostics; this fault always needs the panel pulled by a tech.
