Fridge evaporator sensor error — controller cannot read evaporator temperature.
What 84E means.
84E flags a refrigerator evaporator-sensor fault. This sensor sits on the evaporator coil and tells the board when frost has cleared during defrost. Without it the defrost cycle either runs too long (warming the food on rear shelves) or cuts too early (leaving frost on the coil). Either way the unit eventually frosts up or food on the back shelves freezes. 84E often shows up after a defrost-drain leak corrodes the sensor connector.
