What 5E means.

5E on a Samsung fridge flags a defrost-sensor fault on the refrigerator side. The sensor on the evaporator coil tells the board when frost has cleared and the heater can shut off. Without it the defrost cycle falls back to a backup timer that is usually too short for warm-humid kitchens, so frost slowly builds on the coil over a few weeks until airflow drops. 5E is one of the more common Samsung codes on 4–7 year old French door units.
