What E5 means.

E5 is the catch-all Bosch fault that covers cases where multiple sensors fail simultaneously, or where the control module itself reports an internal fault. Often E5 follows a power surge that damaged several inputs at once, or the module has had an EEPROM corruption event. Until E5 clears, the unit will not cool properly. Bosch documentation classifies E5 as "professional service required" and most field techs will replace the control module rather than chase individual sensors.

  • Wire harness short causing multiple sensor reads to be wrong.

  • Control module hardware failure.

  1. Turn off at the breaker for 30 minutes — this clears some firmware-only E5 events.

  2. Restore power and watch for E5 to either clear or return.

  3. If E5 returns, schedule diagnostics — module-level service is the typical fix.

  4. Move perishables to a cooler if the cabinet is not holding temperature.
