What E3 means.

E3 on certain Bosch firmware versions flags a secondary freezer-temperature sensor fault — the evaporator-coil sensor that controls defrost cycle timing. With E3 active the controller cannot tell when frost has cleared and falls back to a backup defrost timer. Over a few weeks frost builds on the coil and airflow drops. E3 is less common than E1/E2 because not all Bosch models have a separate evaporator sensor — some use the freezer thermistor for both jobs.
